20 July 2016

We were thrilled by the participation of Reddford House students in the annual Mandela Day charity drive commemorated annually across South Africa on July 18th, Nelson Mandela's birthday. Traditionally, participants give a minimum of 67 minutes of their time to help the less fortunate through donations or good works, to honour the 67 years Mr Mandela contributed to the betterment of the lives of all South Africans and globally.

We also wish to thank you all our parents for assisting their children in packing goodie bags for local underprivileged communities in support of Mandela Day.

Reddford House Northcliff's Grade 7 SLC members distributed the goodies bags at two maternity wards at the Baragwananth Hospital, as well as the Philip Kushlick School situated inside Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital. The student enrolment at Philip Kushlick School is composed of cerebral palsied, minimal brain damage and physically disabled children. About 95% of their students come from highly disadvantaged communities; in most cases parents are unemployed. All the students were delighted to receive a goodie bag and we thank our Grade 7 SLC members for the kindness they showed to everyone when handing out the bags.

Reddford House Blue Hills also collected food parcels, blankets and stationery for distribution to the underprivileged.
